When you hear people talking about long walks in the great outdoors surrounded by diverse vegetation and fauna, caves with stalactites and stalagmites of unimaginable forms, natural waterfalls, motorboats, sailing, aquatic sports, and rock climbing... The last thing you can imagine is that they are talking about Monterrey, a city well-known for its business and industry. It may surprise you, but Monterrey offers and abundance of natural attractions.

If you love nature and adventure, you will definitely enjoy unforgettable experiences in the wilderness that is Monterrey’s mountains and rivers. The city offers diverse options for this type of experience. We recommend that you explore the forests, where you will have the opportunity to go bird and butterfly watching, jogging, or mountain biking in Chipinque. Chipinque is a protected natural park, located inside the municipality of San Pedro. Another good option is the Natural Park ¨la Estanzuela¨, where you can walk through gardens at the river’s edge until you reach El Cielo falls. Both parks are located just 20 minutes from downtown.

The “Cola de Caballo”, in the municipality of Santiago, is one of most popular outdoor spots. Here you will be able to enjoy a 25 meter high waterfall, go bungee jumping, or simply spend an afternoon with your family. At ¨La Boca Dam¨ you can enjoy water sports and the areas natural vegetation. In this area, you will find exciting places to practice extreme sports; such routes include Matacanes, Hydrophobia and the Chipitin Water Falls. For these kind of experiences keep in mind that you will need professional guides.

If you are an excitement seeker and you are interested in climbing or rappelling, we suggest that you visit the Huasteca Canyon, located in the municipality of Santa Catarina; or Potrero Chico, located in the municipality of Hidalgo, where the great mountains and routes have been explored by experts from around the world. The best part is that you can find these places just 40 minutes from downtown.

Monterrey and its surrounding sites are waiting to offer you a full day of excitement and adventure.
